About the Retreat

Practice yoga on the banks of the Ganges, meditate with mystics and experience the sights and sounds of this ancient culture on this exciting pilgrimage to the foothills of the Himalayas in the “Yoga Capital”—Rishikesh, India.

Special Guest Teachers Mario Sanchez-Palacios and Jolene Wright join author and yoga teacher Darren Main for daily yoga and meditation practice.

Rishikesh is nestled in the lap of the Himalayas on the banks of the Ganges River and is home to hundreds of schools offering yoga, meditation, chanting, philosophy and Ayurveda. Often called “The Yoga Capital of the World”, it is one of India’s holy cities. Rishikesh was made popular to westerners by the Beatles, who went there to study meditation with their guru. It is also featured in Paramahansa Yogananda’s modern spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi.

Hindus believe that bathing in and drinking from this holy river can wash away bad karma. The riverbanks are peppered with Sadhus—holy men and women who renounce the world to practice daily yoga and meditation. Even some non-Hindus Have found swimming in this river an meditating on her banks to be a deeply moving experience.

Each morning our group will greet the Himalayan sunrise with a daily practice of yoga and meditation. In the afternoon, people often visit the local ashrams of Rishikesh to experience yoga in a traditional setting.

Treat yourself to an Ayurvedic massage or cleanse your body using ancient Ayurvedic practices at our hotel or at one of the many healing centers in Rishikesh.

Experience the rich flavors of India, while overlooking the Ganges river at one of the many restaurants in Rishikesh. There are also many western menu options for those with dietary restrictions. We will provide a list of clean and safe restaurants so that you can feel safe and confident as you dine.
Exploring the shops of India is always an adventure where you can find clothes, fabrics, devotional items, jewelry and ayurvedic herbs. Best of all, the favorable exchange rate offers bargain hunters a chance to go wild!
While our retreat will take place in and around Rishikesh, many people like to tour other parts of India. If you need support planning tours, booking travel or reserving hotel rooms, we have retained India Discovery Tours. This helpful travel agency can also book Delhi hotel rooms and travel to and from Rishikesh upon request.
Getting to and from Rishikesh is fairly simple, but if you are feeling overwhelmed, we have a our travel agent can support you. Once you register, we will send you detailed information on how to book your international flight, obtain an Indian visa and how to get to Rishikesh Once you land in Delhi.
Our retreat will be held at Divine Resort Hotel. Perched on the high on the banks above the river. The hotel has comfortable accommodations, a pool, a restaurant, on-site massage therapy and spa services and spectacular views of the river below. The hotel also has an indoor yoga studio and a gorgeous outdoor terrace on which we will practice yoga each morning.

Keeping everyone safe and healthy is our top priority. Just a few miles from our hotel is a modern hospital and our hotel has a physician on call in the unlikely event you need medical care. Once registered, you will receive detailed information on safety including:

There are hundreds of temples, ashrams, meditation caves and sacred spots in Rishikesh. Explore them for the architecture or the cultural significance or take some time to quiet your mind, offer a mantra and leave an offering.
There are many opportunities to practice Karma Yoga (service) while in Rishikesh including the Mother Miracle School, which provides food, education, clothing and basic medicine to hundreds of children each year.
