To a yogi, the breath is the key that unlocks the heavy doors that keep the unconscious mind far from our awareness. A hatha or restorative yoga class offers basic breathing techniques that go a long way toward liberating the mind and body from the heavy burden of the ego but when a student of yoga is ready to really delve into the unconscious mind and look squarely at the psychological, emotional and physical cutter that have been stored there for many years, more advanced breathing techniques are employed.

There are many advanced breathing techniques available, but I teach a powerful yet simple technique known as Pranic Breathing. Through greatly increasing the amount of oxygen circulating in the blood and flooding the energy body with prana (life energy), deeply held bocks are released and age old patterns (samskaras) are dissolved, leaving you cleansed and free.

Breathing is one of the simplest things in the world. We breathe in, we breathe out. When we breathe with real freedom, we neither grasp for nor hold on to the breath. No effort is required to pull the breath in or push the breath out. Given the simplicity of breathing one would think it was the easiest thing to do in the world. However if it were truly so easy there would be few unhappy or unhealthy people in the world. To become a welcome vessel for the breath is to live life without trying to control, grasp, or push away. And how easy is this? The process of breathing is the most accurate metaphor we have for the way that we personally approach life, how we live our lives, and how we react to the inevitable change that life brings to us.
